She felt herself blush a little bit “Don’t tempt me, Hugo, I will actually try to get off campus.” she pulled a face “I try to be good, but I have a rebellious streak. Oh, that reminds me… I’m having a dorm party next week, I’d like it if you could come.”

“Sure! I’ll be there… but, I’m kinda awkward so I won’t be dancing around and stuff!” he laughed at the thought. “This is the only real conversation I’ve had with anyone in a while… well not including skype or long distance phone calls with the family!” He smiled.

“Why’s that?” she looked at him curiously “the, um, no talking to people, not the clumsiness?”

“I know it sounds clique but my friends… they don’t get me I guess. Like, I like to sometimes just be by myself to think and to sing, when I’m not at home I don’t sing or play music for anyone and they kinda get mad at me because I won’t let them here anything I write. They call me a liar and say I probably can’t sing, plus they’re annoying, they are too focused on material possessions and it’s like whatever” he explained plucking grass from the ground as he spoke.

Scarlett gave him a sympathetic glance “I bet you can sing. But, I won’t pressure you into actually singing for me.” she patted his hand so he’d stop tearing at the grass “Just forget them, Hugo. You’re in Japan now, people here are more respectful than the arseholes back in Colorado, trust me.” she smiled.

“I miss home though, I miss my band… we were rocking! But here is cool too! So you’re a photographer right?” He asked looking at her as he still lay on his stomach playing with the few scatted daisies that were spread around them.

“Aye. Well, it’s not a profession, I’m just sixteen, but yeah, I photograph.” She patted down her satchel, seeing that she remembered her polaroid “Why, want your picture taken?” she smirked.

Hugo laughed, “SURE!” He laughed as he pulled a funny face and attempted to stay in this position as he laughed.

She removed the camera from her bag and held it to her eye. Scarlett then got on her knees and took a couple of snaps of Hugo. The polaroid pictures fell to the grass and she waited for them to develop before picking them up. She smiled at his childish express and said ‘Cute’ softly before showing Hugo.

Hugo got up onto his knees to look at the pictures and delicetly took one from Scarlett. He looked more closely before falling onto his back and laughing.

“Thanks,” he laughed taking the napkin and wiping his face, “bet it’s gonna be fun when you bring home a guy! Poor dude’s gonna be scared stiff of your bros.” he carried on, his American accent thick and apparent even more in his surfer tone.

“Well, whoever I do bring home, if I bring someone home, won’t really care because they’ll be there for me, not my brothers. Besides…” She delicately too a bite out of her sandwich, keeping things neat “it’s an all boys house with the exception of me, so everyone should get along pretty quickly.”

“I suppose you’re right… I didn’t mean anything by it.” He said in a more poliet way, by now he had eaten his sandwich. He took to his feet to wipe all the crumps from his tight jeans and then threw himself to the floor and pushed his hands behind his head, not before placing his pink raybands on his eyes. “nice day huh?” he added looking up at the sun.

Scarlett looked up and squinted “Indeed it is…” she closed her eyes and sighed “It’s too bad that the closest beach is like a two hour drive away, but even then we’re not allowed off campus on a weekday.”

Hugo rolled over onto his stomach and pushed his glasses on top of his head. “We could always just go anyways?” He winked and laughed, “I’m kidding, as much as I act like some kinda regular guy, I’m a total geek and I would never break the rules!’”

Hugo laughed, he too was a nerd, but not for math. “I prefer music and graphic design. I’m kinda… arty? But I like nothing more than just sitting playing music, playing any kinda sport or just playing video games! Some may say I’m a player!” he winked and laughed at his own poor humor.

“You don’t mean a player with girls, right?” She looked up at him, eyes seeming innocent “Cause you seem far too…not the type for that.”

“No, no! In fact, I haven’t ever had a girlfriend! When I was back home… I had too much other stuff going on to worry about girls… and now I’m here, it’s nice to have space.” He smiled softly again.

Scarlett chuckled solemnly as they entered the great hall, she held the door open for Hugo “I’m sure you’ll get on fine with the ladies, just look round, you’ve caught the interest of a few specimen. Must be that face.”

“You know, I’m not really looking for a girl, I think when I meet the right girl, I’ll know. You know what I mean?” Hugo sighed and grinned.

“Yeah I know exactly what you mean. But he’s probably hiding…” She chuckled and picked herself out a cucumber sandwich and a box of minty mochi.

“Still, I’ve never really been that interested in having a girlfriend, I mostly just focus on my music, family and love affair for video games or sports!” he laughed and too chose a sandwich.

Scarlett nodded “I guess family is the most important. But don’t spend too much time on your video games, you’ll end up turning into a couch potato.” She chuckled. After they bought their lunch, she lead him back outside to sit under the sakura tree “So…got any siblings?”

Hugo grinned, if there was one thing he loved to talk about it was his family. “Two sibz, a sister and a brother well, Ember and Jacob…” he then opened his sandwich and took a bite of it in a boyish fashion, meaning he managed to get it all over his light ripped jeans. “What about you?” he asked eventually after he swallowed the largest bite he could have possibly taken.

She handed him a napkin, smirking slightly “You got some of you food…everywhere.” she gestured with her hands and chuckled “Yeah, I have four older brothers. Kirk, Boyd and the twins Rocky and Tyler. It gets pretty hectic at our house, it’s a wonder how our popa copes.”
